About us

The Institute of Archaeology, established by Al-Quds University in 1992, was the first academic archaeological institute to be established locally. it was housed in the Old City and in Sheikh Jarrah until it was forced, due to the separation of East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank, to relocate to the University s Abu Dis campus so that classes could continue.

In 2011, the Institute of Archaeology established the Jerusalem Archaeological Studies Unit in Al-Quds University s Jerusalem City campus to continue to play an academic role in the study of the archaeology of Jerusalem; to provide a base from which to research and analysis digs carried out in the city; and to be an academic reference for research on Jerusalem.
